Terms of Service

By using GradeCheck you agree to a few common-sense rules. Read these — they're short.

Last updated 18 May 2026 · Effective immediately · ~4 min read

The short version

  • Grades are AI estimates, not official assessments.
  • One account per person. Keep your password to yourself.
  • Subscriptions renew monthly. Cancel anytime — no refunds for partial months.
  • Don't use GradeCheck to commit academic fraud or pass off AI work as your own.
  • The service is provided "as is" — we're not liable for academic outcomes.

01 What GradeCheck is

GradeCheck is a self-study tool that uses AI to give you a rough grade and structured feedback on essays, short answers, and test responses. Grades are estimates — they're not issued by an accredited institution and have no official standing.

By using the service you confirm you understand this and won't represent a GradeCheck output as an official grade.

02 Your account

You need an email address to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything that happens under your login.

One account per person. Don't share logins, create multiple accounts to bypass free-tier limits, or use disposable / temporary email services — those domains are blocked at signup.

You must be at least 13 years old to use GradeCheck.

03 Free tier and usage limits

Free accounts get a small number of grades per week (currently one). The limit resets weekly. Attempting to bypass the limit — for example by switching accounts, IPs, or browsers — is a breach of these terms.

We reserve the right to adjust free-tier limits with reasonable notice.

04 Paid plans, billing, and cancellation

Billing. Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay; taxes may be added based on your location.

Renewals. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you keep access until then.

Refunds. We don't refund partial months. If you were billed in error or believe there's been a mistake, contact us and we'll work it out.

Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods with at least 30 days' notice via email. You can cancel before the new price takes effect.

05 Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit a GradeCheck output as an official or sworn academic grade.
  • Use the service to plagiarize, ghostwrite for a paying student, or otherwise commit academic dishonesty.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or programmatically hammer the API outside of normal product use.
  • Submit content that's illegal, abusive, or that you don't have the right to share.
  • Attempt to extract, identify, or jailbreak the underlying AI models.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Severe or repeated violations may result in permanent bans without refund.

06 AI output and accuracy

AI graders are imperfect. They can be inconsistent, miss nuance, hallucinate strengths or weaknesses, and disagree with a human teacher. Use the output as a study aid, not as a ruling.

We make no warranty that grades are correct, repeatable, or aligned with any particular institution's marking standard. Strictness presets and grading templates are heuristics, not authoritative rubrics.

07 Your content

You keep all rights to the text you submit. By submitting it, you grant GradeCheck a limited license to process it through our AI inference provider for the sole purpose of generating your grade and feedback. We don't use submitted work to train models.

If you save a grade, you grant us permission to store the resulting feedback under your account until you delete it.

08 Availability and changes

We work hard to keep GradeCheck running but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service. Outages, maintenance windows, and rare API failures are part of running software. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

09 Termination

You can close your account anytime from settings — doing so cancels any active subscription and removes your saved grades. We can terminate or suspend accounts for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, with notice where reasonable.

10 Limitation of liability

GradeCheck is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including academic outcomes, lost grades, lost time, or decisions made based on AI-generated feedback.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim related to the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or USD 50, whichever is greater.

11 Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's country of residence. Any dispute should first be raised with us directly so we can try to resolve it informally before escalation.

12 Changes to these terms

We'll update the "Last updated" date above when these terms change. Material changes will be announced via email to active accounts at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
